Scott and all, let's work together and make our team defense to be like you suggested. I fully believe we can reach our goal this coming Sunday. Of course with contributions from all players. Playoffs again in 30B? It would be really sweet, wouldn't it. (Especially 30A seems so far away and unreachable......) Yah, let's drink for that! One way to save energy is to have a good adaptive postioning all the time. Which means adjusting your position every seconds. Particulary for defense. We are all aged and less energetic as a few years ago. To have less running and chasing the ball, we shall keep a tight and protective positioning for our defense all the time. Here is my suggestion based on my observation of previous two games: 1) Our wing defenders were not able to mark close the fowards and let them have ample time to turn around and face us. 2) Our sweeper were often exposed to their forwards and thus have NO insurance. ===> TOO risky. The sweeper should be left free most of time with 5~6 yards away in depth from the skipper. 3) Lack of mid-field support in defense. Our opponents approached us from center, our skipper and sweeper both had to face two attacking players and thus NO protection. As a rule of thumb, we back mid-fielder will always service as a buffer zone to allow our defense to have more breathing space as well as time to adjust our defensive position. 4) Eric, if you see our defense were under pressure and our defenders are possibly exhaused ( shame on us :-) ), please take your time to pick up the ball and boot it under reasonable time. This will help us get back to good positioning. thanks, Scott "Chen, Mark" wrote: Excellent analysis, Li Huan. The coming Sunday's game will decide if we can clinch playoff bench or not. It is going to be a road game vs. ND 40 Thompson, the team we beat 3:2 last time. Only one difference: we are a much 'loose' team with much weaker body energy now, as compared to 3 games ago when we beat them. As a captain, I really do not know how to fix that. More frequent substitutions on the field may be A way to alleviate that problem. Any other suggestions? This Sunday, let's all play the game as if it were a playoff game: 1) One-On-One for defenders and R/L mid-fielders, at least; 2) NO WALKing/STANDing on the field. If you choose to stand/walk, please do it off the field; 3) If you are tired just a little, but do not want to be sub'ed out, mark a man at least!!! 4) If you think you are not contributing or not in good mood, please call sub, for the sake of team; 5) No personal hard feelings, win or loose. How to prepare for it? Li Huan already said it. I think every player also knows exactly what to do. We need to get stimulated and get reasonably crazy in the upcoming game(s). Go Dragons.... Here are the latest standings for top 6: 1. STANS NFC F.C 58 points 2 games left 2. Networkers 52 points 2 games left 3. Dragons 42 points 2 games left 4. OBFC INT'L 42 points 2 games left 5. ND 40 45 points 1 game left 6. ND 40 Thompson 33 points 2 games left ND 40 will play with STANS on next Sunday. OBFC will play with STANS on the coming Sunday. I think the chance for STANS losing both games is very minimum. Thus, our next game will be crucial to us. A win will put us in a very good position for a playoff spot, although it is not 100% for sure. We have to play at our full strength on the coming Sunday and we cann't afford to wait to the last minute. Theoritically speaking, ND 40 Thompson still has chance to get into playoff and it is their home game. Therefore, we should be well prepared that it is going to be another tough game. We should pay special attention to their #7 and #10. To my surprise, all our buddies including Networkers, ND 40 Thompson, and Drillers tied their games vs. STANS with same score 2:2. I felt ashamed, as a defense player, for giving up our game easily. With proper tactics, we should have a close game. However, as long as we can take a lesson from it, this might become an advantage for us to meet them again in the playoff. Man, its time for me to run laps again. Lets work together to make it happen.
